Mr. Roboto by Charles Baughman

This piece looks like a mild mannered toy robot that I played with as a kid.  And now, the possibilities are endless with robots.  Are we going to go towards Rosie on the Jetson's or Schwarzenegger in Terminator?  I guess it raises the question of how we envision our future.  Do we see optimism or fear?  So...this piece may LOOK like a cute little robot but there's more meaning there for me.  What do you think?  Does this make you laugh?  Bring back memories?  Let me know.

This painting is one that is not yet on my website .  I should note that all my paintings are painted on wood and extend around the outside edges so no frame is required.  This painting is H10 x W8.

Hey Dad...Gimmie The Keys by Charles Baughman

Every baby wants a rattle of some kind to swing around and suck on and slobber all over...  This is one of my kids' favorites.  As my son nears the age of driving, I can't help but think of the great Violent Femmes song "Gimmie The Car".  Hense the title for this piece.

I'm amazed that as my children play with their toys, I can be filled with the anxiety of a nervous and overprotective parent.  I can't help but envision their future against the backdrop of my coming of age.  But then I come back to this moment and think "Don't Worry. Be Happy."  (Thanks Bobby McFerrin.)

"Summer Deception" is the third painting in a series of four 12 x 12 inch landscapes that I have completed on birch. It is rightfully called deception because I've never seen a cloud so closely resemble a tornado that was not one. I captured this image on a really turbulent evening north of Emporia KS while traveling on I-35. To view more images, please click HERE.

Ring A Ding A Ling by Charles Baughman

Another noise maker.  And another thing to run around the house to annoy parents both then and now.  Is it just me or did they make toys better back then.  I played with my phone as a kid and now my kids are playing with it...STILL!  The good news is the ring tone is out of order and the repairman will not be around to fix it.  Life Is Good!

One thing I like about the toys in the series is they remind me of how far we've come.  Let me explain.  My kids only know this as a pull toy because it doesn't resemble any phone they have ever seen.  Our technology has come so far and it's really evident the evolution of the toys around our house.

This painting is one of a series.  I should note that all my paintings are painted on wood and extend around the outside edges so no frame is required.  This painting is H12 x W12.

There are LOTS more of my pieces for sale at my web site http://www.charlesbaughman.com/.  Please surf on over there and take a look.

Pop, Pop, Pop by Charles Baughman

Christmas is the time to think of kids' toys.  This painting is the updated version of the toy that my children play with.  The version I had was the one with the wooden stick handle.  Loved it!  Still do!  I say that with one reservation...never give a noisy toy to someone you like.  Of course, my parents gave one to my children to get even.

Harmony

Just outside my front door in suburban K.C. late summer. 30x36 acrylic on plexiglass. The overhead wires reminded me of a musical staff. Rhythm and repetition play a part in the daily suburban theme.
